One of the things I dislike most about new tech/remote based companies is the meetings. Endless meetings, and at least half of them are a waste of time.
A big meeting happens. Then a “breakout” meeting gets scheduled to drill down on what was discussed. At that breakout meeting, no real decisions can be made because the leaders are not there. They are also so heavy handed that they need final say on everything. So then another meeting gets scheduled to review what came out of the breakout, so leadership can decide if it works.
Most people never speak. Several people are there even though their role has nothing to do with the topic. Screens are off so they can try to do something productive while the meeting runs in the background.
Then add in seventeen different management tools. Slack, HubSpot, and a dozen more layered in between. Completely over SaaSed.
I advise several companies and sit in on a lot of meetings. You can see it on people’s faces. I am usually there only to speak when asked, but the biggest value for me has been learning how to manage people properly in a remote company. What to do and what not to do.
Breaking teams down smaller. Watching who actually answers questions in meetings. If someone does not participate in two or three meetings, move them into meetings where they add value and keep them out of the rest.
Brick and mortar companies had this same problem with middle management in the 80s and 90s. Now we have replaced the bloat of too many people with the bloat of too many meetings.
Quote of the Day: “Excessive meetings are the blight of big companies and almost always get worse over time.” -Elon Musk

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
