Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Saturday, July 5th, 2025

I have to give Unstoppable Domains credit for a smart pivot. They realized there’s no such thing as “Web3 domains.” They’re just domains. And domains are held at a registrar. The real power is in the tools you give owners at your registrar. So they got a registrar and started doing what I think is the future of registrars: using marketing dollars to subsidize registration costs.

I can see a future where even .coms might be free—if you bring them to a registrar and hold them there long enough. Once you reach a critical mass of domains under management, you offer tools to monetize and use them. You also benefit from expired domain revenue.

Over the past six months, my thinking has shifted a lot. We don’t need a better domain system—we need better platforms. Registrars and domain platforms should offer a better user interface, more efficiency, faster service, and better support. Domain APIs can be extremely powerful. Just look at how fast Fast Transfer works. That speed should be available to everyone, not just through one company. We need the freedom to transact in a lightning-fast, stablecoin-based system—with some rails for protection.

I get the appeal of RWAs. Nobody wants to move cars, wine, watches, or high-end sneakers around. Domains were the first digital asset. What we need now is for people to build useful tools that make buying, selling, registering, and lending better.

NameJet has great inventory. Dynadot has a stable, efficient platform. Atom is creating value every day. Namecheap is trying new things. GoDaddy and Afternic move names like no one else. But none of them are good enough yet. Unstoppable is trying to get there, but their pivot cost them trust—and rebuilding that will take time and work beyond just bringing in new investors.

Domains are the world’s greatest asset. The challenge is building the best platforms to unlock their potential. Someone will get there first. I have an idea who it might be—but they still have a long way to go.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.

  1. That’s a really sharp take. I agree Unstoppable’s shift shows they’re thinking beyond buzzwords and more about long-term platform value. Registrars that double down on tools and UX will define the future of domains.
