Like most parents, I sent my daughter off with a beat up but reliable car. I have a full time mechanic and we went over every inch of it before she took it to school. We replaced everything mechanical. Nothing cosmetic. New brakes and rotors. New struts. New tires. Every hose and pulley. New battery, alternator, and all the electronics.
It ran well, but like any older car it needed things here and there over the next four years. She ended up finding a place by accident, Mavis Tires, and they helped her every time something went wrong. She always said they were the nicest people. Never felt like they were ripping her off. Treated her with respect even though she was a younger woman. They kept that car alive until she finally bought a new truck last year.
Fast forward to this week. I was in Princeton and my wife told me the morning before our trip back to Chicago that her tire pressure had dropped from 33 to 21 overnight. So I took it to my daughter’s favorite place. Mavis. She was one hundred percent right. They were kind, easy to talk to, and their only ask was that if I liked the service, to leave a good review. I told them I had already left one for how they treated my daughter, but I would gladly leave another if my experience matched hers.
It did.
They found a screw in the tire and fixed it. Thirty one dollars. No upsell. No nonsense. Just fixed the tire in an hour and sent me on my way.
While I waited, I listened to how they talked to everyone who called or walked in. Pretty much every person had something new that needed to be fixed immediately. They could not get everyone in that day, but they had a way of making each customer feel heard and taken care of. Clear communication. Calm voices. Useful information. It was a masterclass in customer service.
When I posted that second review, I saw they had fifteen hundred plus 5 star reviews with almost no bad ones.
I am absolutely passing this on to my teams. This is what customer service should look like.
Quote of the Day: “People will forget the price they paid. They will forget the details of the repair. But they will not forget the feeling that someone genuinely cared and tried to help them. That is what keeps them coming back.” -Zig Ziglar

Mavis is fantastic. A few years ago, our then 17 yr old daughter stopped off at the local Mavis shop with a tire issue. The guys took her right in (even though it was busy) and fixed the problem in 20 minutes at no charge. The Mavis culture is top notch – it must come from the top down. Everyone is respectful and fair.
