Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, April 1st, 2026

For the 16th year in a row, I will remind you that today is the worst day of the year to be online. April Fools’ Day is a pass to try to be funny with a lie. The world is eternally now April Fools Day in the fact that you can hardly believe anything you read. Today it’s even worse.

In other domain news, Escrow handed out its annual awards for top domain broker. Unsurprisingly, Media Options was not number one. Andrew Miller was ranked first. That is not surprising, as he is the top individual broker in the world. What is surprising, is that he still seems to use Escrow for his primary Escrow. I would have thought Hilco would have introduced him to other options when he was there.

The list of Top 10 is a list full of the best domain brokers in our industry. Just don’t forget this is a best customer award. It’s based on who used them. Like giving an award to “the burger champion” who ate the most burgers at McDonalds. Not to take away from the list. It’s still a list of the biggest and the best. Because the biggest and the best will and should use Escrow at times.

In the comments, Drew Rosener said they would have won for the 8th consecutive time if they had used Escrow and not moved to other Escrow providers. Saying they have switched because of bad service. I think shots were fired when Escrow essentially titled the post “We have a new king in town,” which is not going to play well with Media Options. No doubt in my mind, they put up with the problems because of the award. Now that the title is not there, it will be interesting to see who they use going forward.

Transaction assurance has taken over for Escrow on most of the small sales. All the major registrars have “bring a sale” options which are only a few points above credit card fees. Still not a lot of options for six and seven figure deals and that’s where the Top 10 needed Escrow.

  1. Andrew’s icon.com sale must have contributed significantly. But yes, it is strange that Hilco doesn’t provide an alternative escrow solution.

I have heard from several brokers that they are not too happy about Escrow.com these days. I also currently have an installment plan there, and it takes them about five days from they receive the buyer’s monthly payment before they start sending it to me. They claim it is because they have a lot of payouts… What kind of excuse is that?
