Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, November 5th , 2025

As we all know, the experience of flying gets worse every year, so I expected nothing but the worst with the government shutdown adding to the fun. Our local airport at Willard is usually like flying private. Security is made up of people I know, and I only have to get there 30 minutes early. Two gates, one security line. I’ve never seen the line longer than five people, and having Global Entry and TSA PreCheck literally puts you in a different line but not a faster one. Still, I have it for the big airports.

Monday was different. The line was 20 deep, and TSA line had 3 people. The plane barely holds that many. It turned out there were two planes leaving within 45 minutes of each other, which is typical on a Monday morning, but I didn’t realize it. Security seemed to know it was going to be rough and approached their job that way. One man who barely spoke English was checking IDs. One person was scanning bags, and one was running the X-ray. If a bag had to be checked, the entire process stopped because there wasn’t anyone else to handle it.

I got in the TSA line, and when the agent checked my ID, he said, “You aren’t PreCheck.” I said, “I’m literally holding a card and ID that says I came here, met with an armed TSA agent who did a background check, interviewed me, and took this picture.” He replied, “It’s not added to your ticket.” I was pretty sure I did, but it didn’t matter at this point. It didn’t say I did. I still don’t understand why it matters. My TSA ID shows I’m cleared. That’s the point of the ID, not the plane ticket. How can I not have something when I clearly have it in my hand? They don’t even need my passport in the U.S. when I show it. That’s how secure it is. It didn’t matter much here, but I guess I need to double-check that all my tickets show TSA PreCheck.

So I get past the non-English speaking man and put my items on the belt. Normal process: computers in bins, toiletries in or out depending on who you ask. I keep them in. My bag immediately gets marked for a bag check. You couldn’t hear the machine shutting down, but you might as well have. Everything came to a halt. Nobody behind me could move until my bag was checked. I knew what it was, my gels. I had a box of gels for my upcoming race. They’re my food, my lifeblood. For some reason, I thought each one was much smaller than the allowed amount. I didn’t think about total liquid.

“You can’t take these,” she said.
“Don’t I get a certain amount?” I asked.
“Yes, but your toiletries cover that.”

I knew I had a small spray bottle of sea salt, I use it in my hair to keep it looking luxurious. I told her it was one bottle. “How much do I get?” I asked. She told me it’s a one-quart bag, and I had a gallon bag. I told her half of those were powders for my drinks and the rest were gels. Maybe I could fill a quart bag with whatever fit. She gave me a hard no and said, “What do you want to do?”

I said, “Take a baggie of these.” She told me if I wanted someone to pick them up, since they looked expensive, she’d leave them at security for me. So that’s what I did. My wife turned around and came to get them. She said they already had them ready at the counter. So for all the problems of a small airport, there are still some positives. I saved $50 in gels and did what I should have done all along, ordered them on Amazon to a friend’s house. She’s meeting me at the race and driving there. Honestly, I can’t believe I didn’t do that for everything.

Also, my bag is much lighter now, with more room for swag from NamesCon. All’s well that ends well.

PS: I want to strangle the person beside me that paid for Internet and has her texts that whistle and dings when she sends one
