One thing that many full-time investors struggle with is the same thing small business owners struggle with: health insurance. If you are forced to go through the government portal and you make a lot of money, family health insurance is beyond expensive. My wife runs health insurance plans for a living, and the key to better rates is joining a better group. If you go through the government, the cost is based only on income, nothing else. If you can find another group to join, it becomes a bidding process.
Many don’t realize there are local business groups that offer group insurance. Almost all university alumni associations have options. So do local chambers of commerce, entrepreneurial groups, and sometimes even your church. You have to do some homework, but they are out there. The government is supposed to be the last choice. If you own a business and are forced to use the government workers’ comp group, you are stuck. Your goal should be to go somewhere else. Even local insurance groups will pool all their independent members together into one large plan. The savings from finding this kind of group can easily be over $1,000 a month.
There is a reason you hear so many people say they keep a job just for the health insurance. Good family coverage and moderate pay can mean a $100,000 difference each year for a family where one person is self-employed and the other works for a company. If the employed spouse decides to stay home, it creates a huge change in household income. That’s the trap—being tied to insurance. We all know the system needs to be fixed, but in the meantime pooling the self-employed into one large fund is an opportunity that hasn’t been developed well. With so many creators and online workers today, the time is right.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links.
