Travs Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday April 12th, 2019

I would say about 50% of the domains that I own would fit into the “brandable” category of domain – so several hundred names.  I have about 100 names on BrandBucket, about 100 names on Brandpa and lately, I’ve been adding some names to SquadHelp.  For those who aren’t familiar with the name, SquadHelp started back in 2010 or so as a company that allowed people needing a name to set up contests where “creatives” (the term to describe the people that participate in these contests) can join the contest and search for a name for the buyer.  Those names are submitted, and the buyer rates the submissions and ultimately (hopefully) chooses a winner and the winner wins a prize.  I’m not aware of all of the specifics, but I think that those submissions were typically unregistered domains.  SquadHelp still does this, but sometime last year they launched a premium marketplace where domainers such as ourselves can submit names.  They approve / reject like the other marketplaces do, and the names can be submitted to contests or be purchased by someone browsing the marketplace and deciding to buy it.  So that puts them in the competitor zone with the likes of BrandBucket and Brandpa.  The other day I received their Q1 2019 Update email where they gave some stats with comparisons to BrandBucket and Brandpa specifically.  Using tools such as Alexa, SEMRush and SimilarWeb, SquadHelp made the case that they are more popular and drive quite a bit more traffic than both of the other sites.  A lot of this traffic comes from paid ads where they show Brandpa at $0, and themselves at 3x the paid traffic of BrandBucket.  That is an important metric and a significant difference.  Commission rates at these marketplaces are high, and you would expect a nice chunk of that to go to paid advertising.  I didn’t want to get into all of the details by marketplace with this specific post, but I did want to ask about others experiences with SquadHelp specifically so far with regards to the premium marketplace.  Please leave a comment if you have something to share about them.

Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on.

Other Names Up for Auction comparables show that this should sell for around $500, but the reserve is $5K – $10K.  good luck.    19 years old.  No reserve at $6.  Everything valuable needs a case.  This is your company now this one is interesting.  RMB is the currency symbol for the Chinese Yuan.  bidding is currently over $50, but the reserve is over $200K.  you would think big Chinese money would come out to play for this one. nice health related name sitting at $69 with 20 bids 3 words, 18 characters and I think it’s worth a good chunk of change.  at $69 with 15 bids ready made closets are a big business

  1. Great post Travis. I just signed up for SquadHelp recently and have only submitted 1 name there thus far. However, the paid advertising aspect makes me really think twice about where I’ll be putting my more brandable names going forward.

    1. Thanks Tom. There are some other differences between the marketplaces to consider, but that is for another article. Paid advertising is big though.

  2. I’ve used BrandBucket and Brandpa for quite some time and both marketplaces have been very good for me. I only have 7 premium names on SquadHelp so far. Only started there a few months back so no sales yet. If sales there are turn out to be as good as the other two marketplaces I will indeed be very happy. The downside for me with SquadHelp is that most of their suggested prices are much lower and for me my acceptance rate has not been as good. Still I have some nice looking logos there and all hopefully will be great.

    1. I agree on the pricing. If it leads to more sales, then it might be worth it. I’ve had the opposite experience with regards to acceptance rate. Mine has been very good at SquadHelp so far.
