What Will Warez.com Sell For?

Warez.com is about to go to auction here at 10pm central over at Namejet and it’s one of the more interesting names to come in a while.  Most people realize this is the word used by hackers to label works that are given away despite being copyrighted. Piracy is a huge online “problem” that most likely will never go away but the US government is starting a heavy crackdown on domains that break copyright and licensing laws. The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have started “Operation In Our Sites”, the domain name seizing initiative designed to crack down on copyright infringement.  Will this effect the final sale price of warez.com?

I think is has to. When people type in this keyword they are not looking to buy a thing.  If you try and offer what they are looking for,  the government will take the domain in a heartbeat.  There are certainly other things you could do with the domain that involves legal profit but the visitors may not take to kindly to it.  If it’s a typical Namejet auction as of late, the 355 bidders are mostly gawkers with only a few actually participating.  I think the name ends in the $15,000-16,000 range.  I have to admit it’s one of the harder auctions to guage because of the legalities.  Anyone else care to chime in with their final selling price estimation?

  1. What’s weird is that GAKT phrase is showing some really high bids for “warez server” @$26. Granted hosting CPC is always up there but is that content really wanted by a host?

Also “warez linking” and “warez linking allowed” at $20+ is a head scratcher. Not sure what they mean but they both get a little bit of search volume.

    Just thought that was interesting.

  2. I like the disclaimer on the bottom of Warez.com
“Disclaimer:Warez.com does not host, track, any torrent files directly. ” because that didn’t stop ICE before from seizing a domain.

I wonder what kind of history this domain has? It had a site on it.

I assume the Warez.com seller is the seller of GoCarts.com also and all the domains listed on GoCarts.com? Seems pretty similar content on each.
