I do like Namepros and DnForum. I still read them almost daily but I’ve haven’t bought or sold a name in over a year and this is a typical reason why. I get so sick of the fake or out of the blue “received a pm for X” It’s almost impossible to come to a reasonable agreement with most sellers and the ability of sellers to create their own Halverezes makes it difficult to know who you are bidding against. Sixteen thousand dollars is a lot of money to throw out and is not something I take lightly. By no means am I saying this person is trying to lie or cheat anyone, I’m just using it as an example. I like this name Flob.com on Namepros but the “flow” of the for sale thread made most of the interested parties uncomfortable. He puts up a BIN and comes in with a bid higher than the BIN and raised his old BIN. Obviously it’s the sellers name to sell or not sell but the games are enough to make most “real” buyers move on. I’ve posted the thread but you can go here to view the original thread

When did you receive the $16k offer?
Do you mean you don’t accept offer less than $16k? Thanks __________________

I’ve received the offer this week and yes I would like offers greater than 16k please. There have been offers between 15-17k received in the past. I feel a 17k is the right price to go with and hence the BIN. __________________

I usually don’t comment in Sales Threads but this sale makes 0 sense to me…
You should just sell for 16.25k if this was a real offer, you get 250 USD more then your BIN right now, simple math wins.. Sorry.. Btw I like this domain and don’t doubt that this domain could fetch 16k but not here at NP IMHO… __________________

In 15 years of buying domains on the Net I have never bought a domain on a forum or from a domainer.
If you cut out the bad odds wherever you can when buying domains your ROI will go up.
The odds are worse when dealing with domainers so why even do it? 🙂
On the contrary, I’ve bought and sold hundreds of domains on forums. Each sale is different, every seller and buyer have their own following of ethical practices. Some do lack it, however. This particular sale seems to be an attempt to maximize a sale price via “shill” or “ghost” bidding. There is no point in either arguing with the seller or participating in such a sale for that matter.
I don’t buy LLLL domains but I have gotten some good deals off forums over the last few years. If you want end user prices don’t try selling your domains on forums.
