As Shane was the first to report a few days ago, Frank Schilling has launched the all new DomainNameSales.com. After checking it out the last couple of days I must admit it is impressive. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s a domain site like no other. It’s the only domain site that provides an in-depth look at one of the largest domain portfolios in the world, providing up to date information on domain inquiries and quotes to prospective buyers. Needless to say, being able to see the domains that end-users are interested in is a gold mine to the average domainer. Within two days of the site’s launch, I’ve already identified a trend that makes me realize I have a major hole in my portfolio.
I’ve never been a LLLL.com kind of guy, but I might be soon. One of the big things that jumps out at me from the inquiry and quotes list is just how many 4L domains are listed…and some of them are just average at best, such as HZQC.com. I counted well over 25 inquiries for LLLL.com’s from just yesterday alone. With all the drops I see, I always believed LLLL’s were a bit overrated for the most part, especially the average ones. While I realize people do drop them for a reason, being able to see the amount of inquiries 4L’s receive also makes me realize there are still a lot of buyers out there for these names.
The transparency that DomainNameSales.com provides and the ability to now view market activity and interests has already taught me that I should really look into purchasing some quality LLLL domains. When I say quality, I don’t necessarily mean RING.com or any exact match keyword. Just some simple CVVC or CVCV’s would be good to own and sit on…and the best part is, they’re available…for anyone who wants to pick them up. Heck, there are 4 pages of LLLL.com’s listed on DropDay for today alone.
For those of you who haven’t checked out the new DomainNameSales.com yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. The opportunity to see how one of the most successful domainers makes his money is one we should all take advantage of. Like me, you may identify some opportunities to better your portfolio and potentially make more money with domain sales…and that is why we’re all here, isn’t it?
Keep in mind you don’t know how many LLLL.com domains he owns. If he carries 25,000 of them to get 25 offers in the high $xxx to low $x,xxx range, was it really worth it? If you do go LLLL.com focus on quality letters that actually have potential to be an acronym for someone. Given how many combinations there are, and the likelihood of someone having an acronym with four words (much less that the words actually match your domain), it seems too much like gambling.
LLL.com is a much safer bet, although it is more expensive.
Michael, thanks for the comment. I certainly understand where you’re coming from. More than anything I was just surprised at a lot of the inquiries for LLLL.com’s where when I did research on the acronym I couldn’t find anything substantial that would match. I would never buy a domain without giving it the research it deserves, hence why I said ‘quality’. I certainly don’t want to tip my hand by giving all of the details but I guess the main point of this post is to say that now that I’ve seen the types of LLLL’s people are inquiring about, it has certainly given me a few ideas as to a domain or two I would like to pick up soon 🙂
Agree with Michael. There are 456,976 LLLL.com’s. We don’t know exactly how many FS has. They are a gamble worth taking for reg fee and maybe a bit more than that. I definitely will keep a keener eye out for them but won’t go apenuts over them.
Just remember these arent all the names Frank owns on Domain Name Sales, These are all the domains that are parked at Internet Traffic – So the offers arent all for his own names they include anyone using his service.
Please keep in mind you see many offers, many of these offers are coming from India, and other oversea countries, and they are low ball offers. Not everyone understands who appreciates the true value of domains to their realistic values. You may see hundreds of inquiries but only a few get done on the sales side.
This is impressive but only for a big boys but what about an average domainers like most of us ??
I came across a new and VERY IMPRESSIVE domain selling site for an average domain holder. It is very clear, easy to use,categorize, shows number of people visiting your listing.
